Yahoo and AOL
Yahoo and AOL email addresses do not meet our strict criteria for Deliverable emails. Learn more here
To maintain the highest standards of data integrity, Emailable classifies Yahoo-provided email addresses as Risky. This classification reflects specific technical challenges inherent to how Yahoo manages its user accounts.
Why Yahoo Addresses are Classified as Risky
The "Risky" designation is a direct response to Yahoo’s internal account policies, specifically their handling of inactive users.
- Account Deactivation: Yahoo frequently deactivates accounts that show no user activity for a set period. These addresses remain "real" in the sense that they exist in Yahoo’s database, but they are temporarily disabled.
- The Verification Challenge: Because these accounts were originally created by real people, standard verification methods may see them as valid. However, any email sent to a deactivated account will be rejected upon delivery.
- Uncertainty: A significant percentage of Yahoo addresses that appear deliverable may actually belong to these inactive users. To ensure our 99% accuracy guarantee, we classify these as Risky to indicate that while the address exists, successful delivery cannot be guaranteed.
Impacted Providers
This classification applies to all domains managed under the Yahoo infrastructure, including:
-
Yahoo (
@yahoo.com, etc.) -
AT&T / Currently (e.g.,
@att.net,@sbcglobal.net,@bellsouth.net)
Handling Undeliverable Addresses
It is important to note that Undeliverable Yahoo addresses are unaffected by this policy. Our verification network can still definitively identify invalid or non-existent Yahoo accounts, which will continue to be marked as Undeliverable.
How This Differs from Other Services
While other verification services may mark these same addresses as "Deliverable," this is often due to ignoring the underlying uncertainty in Yahoo's inactivity policies.
At Emailable, we prioritize transparency over inflated deliverability rates. If a competitor marks a Yahoo address as "Deliverable" that we have marked as Risky, it indicates they are choosing to overlook the high probability of a bounce due to account deactivation. We believe providing a Risky status is the most professional and accurate way to inform your sending strategy.
